Press-on nails or gel nails at the salon? The honest comparison

Mar 29, 2026
Press-on nagels versus salon gelnagels

For years I sat faithfully in the salon chair every three weeks. Until I worked out what it was actually costing me, in money and in Saturday mornings. This is the honest comparison between press-on nails and gel nails at the salon, without the sugar-coating.

The costs side by side

A salon treatment quickly costs 45 to 70 euros, and that's every three to four weeks. Over a year you're looking at 600 to 900 euros. A handmade press-on set costs about 25 euros once and, with good glue tabs, lasts several wears. Even as an avid switcher you spend a fraction of that.

Time is the real difference

Salon visit: booking an appointment (often weeks ahead), travelling there and back, one and a half to two hours in the chair. Press-ons: ten minutes at your kitchen table, whenever it suits you. Doing your nails at ten on a Sunday evening for a job interview? Absolutely possible.

And what about your natural nails?

Press-ons win by a mile here. Gel and acrylic have to be filed and soaked off, which often leaves thin, weak nails behind. Our soft gel press-ons go on with glue tabs and come off in three minutes with warm water. Your own nails stay completely intact.

Quality: the honest story

A top salon does beautiful work, we're not going to deny that. But handmade press-ons come surprisingly close these days. Every one of our sets is made and painted by hand, exactly the way a nail stylist does it. Only ready and waiting for you.

Who is what for?

Do you love a fixed monthly pampering appointment and see the salon visit itself as the treat? Then absolutely keep going. Do you want salon-worthy nails without the time, cost and damage? Then press-ons are your new routine. Try it yourself and browse our newest sets, or start safely with the beginner set.

How to measure your nail

 1. Measure the widest part of your nail, from side to side.
 2. No measuring tape? Wrap a strip of paper around your nail, mark both edges and measure the strip flat with a ruler.
 3. Note the width in millimetres and look up your size in the chart.

Width per size

The sizes in the chart refer to the width of your nail. You choose the length with the shape.

💡 Good to know

 • Not every finger a perfect match? Pick the size that fits most fingers.
 • Between two sizes? Go for the larger one — filing a nail down a little is always possible, too small never fits.
 • Still in doubt? The starter set contains every size from S to L, so you are always covered.
