Press-on nails

How to apply press-on nails in 5 steps (so they really do last two weeks)

Oct 12, 2025
Press-on nagels aanbrengen

Ten minutes, that's all you need. But the difference between press-on nails that come loose after three days and nails that sit perfectly for two weeks? It's all in the preparation. This is how I do it myself, every single time.

Step 1: start with clean, dry nails

Sounds obvious, but this is where it often goes wrong. Remove any old polish, wash your hands and wipe each nail with one of the alcohol pads included. Every trace of oil or cream stops the glue tab from bonding properly. So no hand cream just beforehand either, however tempting.

Step 2: gently push back your cuticles

Use the cuticle stick from your kit to push your cuticles back carefully. This gives you more surface to stick to and lets the press-on sit neatly right up to your cuticle. It instantly looks more professional.

Step 3: choose the right size for each finger

Lay the nails loosely on your fingers before you start sticking. The right size covers your whole nail without overlapping your skin. Torn between two sizes? Take the smaller one. Can't work it out? Then choose the beginner set: it contains every size from S to L, so you're always covered.

Step 4: apply the glue tab and press firmly

Stick the glue tab onto your own nail, peel off the protective layer and press the press-on down in one movement, from the cuticle towards the tip. Hold each nail firmly for about 15 to 20 seconds. Those seconds really do make the difference.

Step 5: give the glue some rest

For the first two hours after applying, avoid prolonged contact with water. Washing your hands is fine, but postpone that long bath or the washing-up just a little longer. After that they're rock solid.

My extra tip

Apply your nails in the evening. That way the glue has all night to cure and you wake up with a perfect manicure. Browse all handmade designs and pick your favourite.

How to measure your nail

 1. Measure the widest part of your nail, from side to side.
 2. No measuring tape? Wrap a strip of paper around your nail, mark both edges and measure the strip flat with a ruler.
 3. Note the width in millimetres and look up your size in the chart.

Width per size

The sizes in the chart refer to the width of your nail. You choose the length with the shape.

💡 Good to know

 • Not every finger a perfect match? Pick the size that fits most fingers.
 • Between two sizes? Go for the larger one — filing a nail down a little is always possible, too small never fits.
 • Still in doubt? The starter set contains every size from S to L, so you are always covered.
