New to press-on nails? Then this is your starting point. In this beginner's guide we explain what press-on nails are, who they suit, how to choose the right size and shape, and how to get going in about ten minutes. For every part we point you to a more detailed article.
What are press-on nails?
Press-on nails are pre-shaped, pre-painted nails that you stick onto your own nails with adhesive tabs. Our sets are made by hand from soft gel in our own studio. The material is light and flexible, and after a few hours it feels almost like your own nail. You can read exactly how handwork and soft gel work in handmade press-on nails versus factory made.
What is in a set?
Every set contains 10 nails plus 5 spares in one size. In the box you will also find 150 adhesive tabs, a nail file, a cuticle pusher and alcohol wipes. We do not sell glue, because adhesive tabs are what we recommend.
Who are press-on nails for?
For anyone who wants beautiful nails without a salon appointment. A gel treatment at the salon is due every three weeks and takes an hour and a half to two hours, plus travel time. Press-on nails you do yourself, whenever it suits you. If you would like the comparison laid out, read press-on nails or salon gel nails. Torn between press-on nails and doing your own gel polish? Press-on nails or gel polish at home will help.
Choosing your size and shape
The size is about the width of your nail: XS, S, M and L. The shape decides length and style, from short to long: Round, Oval Short, Square Short and Oval Long. If you are between two sizes, choose the larger one and file the sides down a little. Everything about measuring is in the size guide, and you can read which shape suits your hands in the shape guide. If you want to be sure of the fit, the Beginnerset Reflected has sizes S, M and L in one box.
Applying them in brief
- Push your cuticles back with the cuticle pusher.
- Wash your hands and dry them well, with no hand cream or oil afterwards.
- Wipe each nail clean with an alcohol wipe.
- Smooth the adhesive tab onto your own nail, from the centre to the edges, place the nail and press it down firmly for fifteen to thirty seconds.
- For the first two to four hours, avoid long contact with water.

How long do they stay on, and how do you take them off?
With adhesive tabs they stay on for one to two weeks, about ten days on average. To remove them, soak your hands in warm water with a little soap for a few minutes and lift the nail from the side with the cuticle pusher. Never pull them off dry. That way you can wear the same set three to five times, as long as you store it properly in the box.
Our tip for your first set
Take your time and choose a quiet moment, such as the evening. Lay out all the nails per finger first, then work one finger at a time. The second time is already much quicker.
