December in the UK arrives all at once. The office Christmas party, drinks with friends on a Thursday, Christmas Day with the family, then New Year's Eve before you've had a chance to put your feet up. Somewhere in there you're meant to fit in a manicure, and the salon you actually like was booked up weeks ago.

Christmas party nails: what's in this year
This year's Christmas nails are refreshingly easy to live with: deep reds and burgundy, chrome and mirror finishes, cat-eye, glitter in gold and silver, French tips and milky nudes. Nails for the office Christmas party
Office Christmas party nails have a slightly awkward job. They need to feel like an occasion on the night and still look sensible at your desk the next morning, when you're answering emails and pretending you didn't sing Last Christmas twice. Prosecco handles both: a champagne-coloured nude with a warm, festive glow, subtle enough for a working day and special enough for drinks. Classic French, a soft pink base with a crisp white tip set by hand, is hard to go wrong with. Rosy Dew is a soft rosé nude with a delicate cat-eye shimmer, for when plain nude feels a touch too plain.

Christmas Day nails
There's the roast to get in, last-minute presents to wrap, and at least one family photo that will end up in the group chat. This is a day for a practical length: nails you can peel potatoes and tie ribbon with without a second thought. You don't need a new set for it, either. Take your nails off carefully after the work do, keep them in their box, and put the same set back on for Christmas Day with fresh adhesive tabs.
New Year's Eve nails
New Year's Eve nails can afford to be a bit bolder. It's the one night nobody bats an eyelid at longer, shinier nails, so go for Oval Long. Black Friday: how to tell if a press-on set is worth it
If you're browsing Black Friday press-on nails, late November is a sensible time to sort out December: there's still time for a trial run before the invitations pile up. The harder part is telling a good set from one you'll be picking off by the second glass of fizz. These checks work for any false nails, glue-on nails included:
- Reusable or single use. Can you wear it again, or is it made for one night?
- A real size choice. Proper sizes, or one box meant to fit everyone? Ours come in XS, S, M and L.
- Spares. Every L'Adele set has 10 nails plus 5 spares in the size you choose, so one lost nail doesn't spoil the evening.
- Soft gel or thin plastic. Soft gel can be filed to fit and even painted over. Thin plastic is much harder to adjust.
- Adhesive. Are there enough tabs to wear the set more than once? Ours come with 150.
- Wear time. Ours last one to two weeks on the nail, about ten days on average.
- Exchange policy. If the size is wrong, can you swap it? With us you can exchange an unused set for the right size within 14 days, and we send the new size free of charge.
A set that lasts one night is never a bargain. One you can wear to every party in December is another matter.
One set, the whole party season
With good care, the same set can be worn three to five times, and the 150 adhesive tabs in the box are plenty for that. Wear your nails to the work do, then soak your fingertips in warm soapy water and lift each nail gently from the side. No acetone needed.
